I must warn you – this is not a time management conversation. Today we’re talking about energy and how to tap into your peak performance levels so you can easily FOCUS.
Because when you can manage your energy, you can control your time.
Today, I pulled out a few gutsy strategies from our leadership academy that work. They’ve worked for me and for all the professionals I’ve coached here at In Our Shoes. I’m very much my own student, so I practice these principles daily. I hear this coming up as a common topic on our calls, and why I’m sharing these insights today – enjoy. 💝
1. Discover Your Personal Peak Performance Periods
When are you naturally most energetic and focused? Morning, afternoon, or evening? Be intentional about WHEN you dive into your work. Planning around your peak periods lets you tackle high-priority tasks when your energy is at its highest, ensuring that your most important work gets done when you’re feeling your best.
- Gutsy Tip: Don’t let your schedule dictate your productivity—let your energy do that. You know your body and when it’s ready to churn out your best work!
2. Be Aware of those Instant Gratification Activities
No judgement. It’s easy to get caught up in checking off quick tasks that don’t add lasting value. Instant gratification activities may give you a quick win, but they don’t necessarily serve you in the long run. Instead, focus on impactful tasks that cover more ground and will move you forward.
- Gutsy Tip: If it feels easy or worse comfortable, but not ‘important,’ it might be time to reconsider. Be protective around where your energy is placed.
3. Implement the Golden Gutsy Rule of 3
Every day, choose three impactful tasks to focus on. These aren’t just any tasks, but the three that will have the biggest impact on your progress and productivity. By limiting your focus, you increase the likelihood of completing your most important work with a full tank of energy. When there’s no more oil in your lamp, there’s no more light to shine.
- Gutsy Tip: Start your day by writing down your top 3 priorities. Keep them visible as a reminder to stay on track. The sense of accomplishment will be huge when you see those three things checked off by the end of the day.
4. Work Smart: Set a Gutsy Strategy Block Each Week
Each week, schedule a dedicated time for strategy and thinking—not doing. This block of time is for reflection, planning, and recalibrating your course. It’s where your creativity and strategy thrive, ensuring you’re not just working, but working smart.
- Gutsy Tip: People pleasing no more. I’m asking you to push back when it comes to protecting your energy. Communicate clearly to everyone that you’re unavailable during this block. Guard it fiercely, because this is when you find clarity and oh yes, the gutsy breakthroughs happen.
5. Music Sets Your Mojo
Find your focus through sound. Music can be a powerful tool in managing your energy and snapping into focus. We’re big fans of alpha frequency waves, which help many people stay in a state of deep concentration. I personally snap right into line whenever listening to classical music. Moonlight Sonata, anyone? With the right music you can actually shut off parts of your brain and accelerate your progress, helping you flow seamlessly from task to task. Are you a child of the 90’s? Remember those techno music days? Well we hear for many people techno helps them silence the chatter and get to work!
- Gutsy Tip: Create a playlist that boosts your productivity. Whether it’s instrumental, ambient, or brainwave music, find what gets you in the zone and run with it.
6. Bring Water Into Your Work Sessions (physically and spiritually)
Let it flow! Water is more than hydration. It’s a receptor for your thoughts, desires, and intentions. Science shows that water crystals change when exposed to positive energy—and since we’re mostly made of water, listening to ocean waves, or having a visual of ocean blue water, will enhance your mental performance. Staying hydrated also has you last longer. The flow of water mirrors the flow of your focus and can help calm you.
