From Faith Meyer Young, Chief Operations Officer, Med School Tutors
“Marisa, Thank you!  I’ve spent a lot of time since your talk “Speaking without Apology, thinking about what we really are trying to say  when we say “I’m sorry” and I’ve tried using those more accurate substitutions whenever possible (“It’s unfortunate that…” “Excuse/pardon me…” ), and I’ve also been pushing my team (the majority of whom are female!) to drop the unnecessary sorries as well.
.
Thank you again and for helping to point us very capable ladies in the direction of our power and authority.”
.
What I most love about receiving e-mails like this each week is what Faith added at the end about us. That we are all “very capable ladies”. I haven’t yet worked with anyone who isn’t intelligent, a go-getter, intuitive, knows her worth and yes even confident.
.
Yes, this describes you too. : )
.
If you are just joining us here at In Our Shoes, we start with mindset and having a solid self-awareness of who you are, what you have to deliver so no one can shake you down. This is not really about your confidence level (although you may think it is). It’s about how you are being perceived. It’s your job to create that image of the intelligent, mindful expert you truly are.  Women like us do not naturally shout from the rooftops. I wish we could, then perhaps advocating for ourselves wouldn’t feel so challenging. What I have discovered is something that we have naturally, which not everyone else has and which we can use to our advantage – it’s our quiet power. We can instinctively tap into others and then make decisions based on that intelligence. It’s your intuition, it’s your gut and yes it’s a very real thing. In fact it’s more real than the physical things around you in this very moment. The tricky part and why we weren’t born to trust it, is because it’s not visible and yet we feel it wherever we go.
.
I always wondered how I survived a Wall street executive career as the quiet one on the street. It’s because I discovered my true power was in listening, observing, acting on intuition and then step-by-step making those gutsy moves which I needed to grow just as you may today. So whether you are an entrepreneur or intrapreneur inside your organization, the things you are resisting in your life are there for a reason. You are being called to step into your fears (fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of looking foolish) and take them on. And it has to be uncomfortable.   So stick with it, there’s something bigger on the way once you make that commitment to stretch.  You can begin here, where I take you step-by-step on that journey with the system that  WORKS for professionals like us.
