Cheat Sheet : Soft Skills

Your soft-skills are extremely influential in making you memorable in a company and among people you meet. Remember just because you have all of the following traits below, doesn’t mean people see it. It’s up to you to put yourself forward most authentically and be yourself.

In what ways do you demonstrate the following traits in business, given your UNIQUE personality? Note to self – you are not allowed to say “Well I don’t”. Close the book on the past. You are entering a new chapter here. Stay in the present. This is the job you want, you have visualized it, you are the most qualified to slide right in and own it. Now how are you strutting your stuff and showing off your soft skills? Think about how you can light up the room when someone meets you for the first time. If you’re a low key type of person, that’s ok. This is not about swinging from the chandeliers to get their attention. Quiet people have a strong presence too. How can you assert yourself so they can hear you? If you’re the opposite and very WOW type of personality, then how will you adjust to floor them by what you’re saying and not lose their attention? It’s a balancing act for sure, but you have to really know yourself on this one.

Now, grab someone you love and please have them read your answers below. You are not a one woman island anymore, RIGHT? Ask them to rate your answers and do a mock interview weaving in the accomplishments you noted in the previous step. Strut your stuff using your stellar personality. They love you and will be honest if you are too strong or too weak. Just remember to be true to who you are without toning it up or down too much. Plus, people (especially women) can smell if you are not being yourself. Give specific answers, do a brain dump and don’t overedit! Yes in case you are thinking, this IS a very WARM and FUZZY exercise. But guess what? The people who hire you and want to be around you for 8+ hours everyday *heart* the SOFT SKILLs which are uniquely yours.
