In Our Shoes recently learned of an inspiring mission happening in a secondary school located in East London, led by ICT teacher Carrie Ann Philbin. It’s called The Geek Gurl Diaries where Carrie Ann is scouting for inspirational women role models for their young women students to pursue the world of Computing, Science or Technology.  If you or someone you know would like to get involved as well, they are taking interviews or videos as I have added here. They would love more women in IT from the UK, please pass this post on!

Very much a girl geek and in keeping with the mission here at In Our Shoes inspiring women in their careers, as you can imagine I was thrilled to be a part of this project. What follows is a short video where I discuss the other side of technology, the creative side.  When we pursue careers where we are flexing our creative muscles, we really enjoy what it is that we’re doing. .

I would also like to mention here for the working parents in our village. When you are doing things in your life which you are passionate about, your children can see and feel that energy which inspires them to follow their own interests and it becomes addictive. When they see us unhappy in our lives, they are taught to settle and accept the curveballs which is not an option for us.  When you get stuck in your career, start moving the wall or go around it to create change. I hope this video inspires any young woman out there who may be thinking about a field of technology  – enjoy!
